Ride Calendar

 

All members please carry your membership card with you on all rides in case of emergency (preferably in your saddle bag, where it can be easily found). Please continue to carry the previous year's card until you receive your new one.

Guest riders please carry emergency contact details with you in an easily accessible place.

Club members can only take part in club rides if they have (at least) appropriate third party insurance.

Club rides take place regularly on Wednesday mornings, Thursday evenings (though not during the winter) & afternoons, Friday mornings and Sunday mornings, but please check the club calendar for changes (including cancellation due to bad weather) and for extra rides, which may appear at any time.

Ride Groups

The club runs several ride groups as detailed below:

 

Group 1:

Rides are easy paced and are normally around 15 to 18 miles long at an average speed of about 9 to 10 mph. Where possible there will be few hills on these rides (but please remember that Crowborough is situated in a hilly area).

This group would be an ideal starting place for beginners and inexperienced riders considering joining the club.

This group may not ride every week so please check the club calendar for ride availability (or contact the club or enquire at Wealden Cycles in Crowborough).

 

Group 2:

Rides tend to be between 20 and 30 miles long at an average speed of 10 mph with about 2000 feet of climbing. These rides are aimed at those seeking a leisurely but rewarding ride with time to chat en route. A coffee stop is considered essential on these rides.

 

Group 3:

Rides tend to be between 30 and 40 miles long at an average speed of just under 12 mph with 2000 to 3000 feet of climbing.  These rides usually include a coffee stop at around half to two thirds distance.

 

Group 4:

Rides tend to be quite demanding and are normally between 35 and 45 miles long at an average speed of around 14 mph with 3000 to 4000 feet of climbing. These rides usually include a coffee stop at around half to two thirds distance.

 

Group 5:

Rides are normally between 40 and 60 miles long, but can be much longer. Average speed is usually around 16 mph with 3000 to 5000 feet of climbing. There is often a coffee stop at around half to two thirds distance, but this is not always the case.

 

 

Trail Riding Group:

Meet on Thursday afternoon and ride along the Forest Way to Forest Row (where there is a coffee stop) and back. Rides are normally 14 miles long at an average speed of between 9 and 10 mph with very little climbing. This is an off road ride so is not suitable for a normal road bike.

 

 

Open rides:

Some of our rides are open to riders of all standards. In these cases either there will be an indication of level on the calendar or the ride will be decided on at the meeting place, taking into account the level of rider that turns up to take part.

As these are open rides there are no designated ride leaders. If you don't normally go on these rides please check with the club to make sure that there are members riding.

 

 

**Sunday is the main ride day for the club when it is the aim that the different groups meet up with each other at the coffee stop at least once a month.
